Bird and Shane

by Mike on Apr.24, 2009, under Photos, Project 365

On Wednesday I got in my car and drove along the road that follows the Tulpehocken River, along the way I spotted a heron hanging out on the banks. I quickly turned my car around, pulled off the road, and grabbed my camera. I spent the next half hour sneaking closer and closer to the bird. By the end of it I was standing on a rock in the water with the bird across the river from me. This all lead to 139/365:

I have taken to bribing my friends to let me take their portraits using beer. The first one was a few days ago when I took my roommate’s picture. Thursday I bribed my friend Shane into letting me take his picture for my 365. I’m trying to go 20 days without taking a picture of myself, Shane was day 8.

Blue Heron

by Mike on Sep.23, 2008, under Photos

I got up this morning at 6:30 intending to go to the Tulpehocken Creek and see if there would be any good shots as the sun came up. I was expecting to do mostly landscape stuff, so I had my Sigma 17-70 on my Canon 40d. As I walked down the path I looked to the near side of the creek and about 10 yards in front of me sitting on a lot was a blue heron. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get close enough with the 17-70 so I backed off a bit to switch to the 70-200. As I did this the bird flew further down the creek. I caught back up with him and shot as much as I could, only this time he was on the opposite bank. He took off again and out of 10 frames I managed to get 1 decent one of him in flight.
